FAQ
Questions, answered plainly.
- What does a kitchen design consultant do?
- A kitchen design consultant conceives the design of your kitchen and coordinates everything required to realize it: space planning, drawings, cabinetry and materials specifications, appliance selection, and coordination with your builder or architect through installation. KDC is design-focused. We are not cabinet builders or general home improvement contractors, and that focus is why clients hire us.
- How does the process start?
- It all begins with a conversation. Al Parron meets with you, and with your builder or architect if you have one, at your home or over Zoom. You will talk through how you live, what the kitchen needs to become, and the realistic paths to get there, including budget recommendations.
- Do you only design kitchens?
- Kitchens are the focus and always have been, but KDC also designs fine custom cabinetry for baths, closets, home offices, libraries, wine rooms, and wall units.
- What areas do you serve?
- KDC serves Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, and Collier counties from its base in Hollywood, Florida. The firm has also completed projects nationally and internationally, from Manhattan to Barbados, and works with remote clients over Zoom.
- Will you work with my architect, builder, or designer?
- Yes, and the collaboration is a core part of the service. Al remains available to your architect and builder at all times during the project to keep the kitchen design coordinated from concept through installation.
- How long does a custom kitchen project take?
- Every project is different, and the honest answer depends on the scope, the cabinetry line, and your building's requirements. Timeline expectations are part of the first consultation, so you know what to expect at each step before anything begins.
- Do I need condo or HOA approval for a kitchen renovation?
- In most South Florida condominiums and many HOA communities, yes. Approvals, insurance requirements, and work-hour rules are routine in KDC projects, and planning for them is built into the design process.
- What cabinetry brands do you work with?
- KDC selectively works with some of the world's finest custom cabinetry manufacturers, including Cabico, Omega, Binova, and Lube, with countertop materials from makers such as Caesarstone and Think Glass. When a design calls for something unique, from exotic woods to stainless steel to glass, KDC sources it.
- Is Kitchen Design Consultants an established firm?
- Yes. The business traces to the 1960s, when Ivan Parron purchased Kitchen Center, Inc. in Miami. The craft passed from generation to generation, and today owner Al Parron has more than 35 years of design experience, 550 completed projects, and 10 design awards. KDC is a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association and was named to Remodeling magazine's 2003 BIG 50.
